Irish Coffee

Since St. Patrick’s Day is on a Saturday this year, why not start your morning with an Irish Coffee.   Irish Coffee was invented back in 1939 by Joe Sheridan.

Here’s how to make it:

1 shot of your favorite Irish Whiskey.

If your favorite happens to be a very expensive single malt then by all means,  pour away.  If you don’t have any Irish Whiskey at home (and yes you must use Irish Whiskey here),  we recommend Tullamore Dew. It’s a favorite among Irish whiskeys for its distinctive, accessible taste.

 Hot coffee.

Like whiskey, everyone has a favorite coffee.  We won’t even get started here on which coffee to use, just make sure it’s of a good quality.  If you like it strong, make an espresso or brew a good dark roast.  If you you like it lighter, perhaps just wave some coffee beans over a glass of hot water.

 Heavy cream.

Lightly whip the cream in a blender to a count of 12.  Pour over the back of a spoon to float on top of the coffee.  The cream on top keeps your coffee warm.

And of course, no cocktail is complete without a toast.  In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, here are a couple of Irish toasts:

“May the luck of the Irish
Lead to happiest heights
And the highway you travel
Be lined with green lights.
Wherever you go and whatever you do,
May the luck of the Irish be there with you.”

“If you’re lucky enough to be Irish…
You’re lucky enough”

“Here’s to a long life and a merry one.
A quick death and an easy one.
A pretty girl and an honest one.
A cold pint– and another one!”

Sláinte – to your good health.

Triple Voodoo’s Success First Brewed At Mollie Stone’s

From Kiley, Mollie Stone’s Craft Beer Expert

In late 2009, a friend of Mollie Stone’s named Paul Saporita approached me and asked who managed the beer at our Burlingame store because he loved our selection. I told him I did, and asked why. Paul told me that he and a few buddies brewed a beer that was on top at several high end beer destinations including Pi Bar, Rosamunde and Monk’s Kettle. They were brewing a Belgian, which was somewhat uncommon at the time because most brewers were focusing on super hoppy beers. Intrigued, I asked him the name of his brewery and he told me they were called Cherry Voodoo at the time. Continue reading

June 20, 2013: Meet Celebrity Chef Sharone Hakman

Join us at Mollie Stone’s Burlingame on Thursday, June 20, 2013, to meet Chef Sharone Hakman of Master Chef fame!

Sharone Hakman as always been the guy behind the grill, and now he’s the man behind the sauce. His goal? To redefine BBQ and elevate it with real body, developed flavor and sophistication.

In 2010, Sharone earned a spot on the FOX Network’s MasterChef – a reality cooking show which sought to find America’s most promising amateur chef – and stole the show when he crafted a BBQ sauce that judges declared his “secret weapon.”

He tested his creation, feeding BBQ sauce-smothered steak to 500 Marines at Camp Pendleton, and satisfying America’s road warriors with gourmet BBQ burgers during a truck stop challenge. When TV’s toughest food critics and chefs were blown away, Sharone knew it was time to share. Gordon Ramsay called Hak’s sauce the “best BBQ sauce ever made” and Oprah Winfrey recently hailed it as an “updated take on barbecue sauce” with “depth and complexity to burn.”

Mark your calendar to get Sharone’s tips and secrets to elevating your BBQ with his award-winning sauces:

Interview with Jennifer Graham, Brand Ambassdor for Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey

We sat down with Jennifer Graham, Brand Ambassador for Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey, to find out what her unique job entails and to learn more about Kilbeggan (which is the oldest licensed whiskey distillery in Ireland!).

Your title is “Brand Ambassador” – how did you get this position and what does the job entail?

I got the job through a graduate program back in Ireland. It’s Ireland’s longest running international business graduate scheme and looks at pairing Irish business graduates with companies exporting Irish products. I am based mostly out of San Francisco but I also travel a lot around the US to help increase distribution in cities like Miami, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Indiana and New York. My role involves sales, marketing and everything in between. Brand education is a huge part of my job. I educate bartenders and consumers not only on our whiskeys themselves but also the Irish whiskey category as a whole. I also work with our national marketing team on brand strategy and upcoming projects going on in my market. It’s a very diverse role.
